After getting four punctures in three weeks I decided it was time I replaced my tyres. They had been on the wheels for a few years and were beginning to lose tread.

So I looked around for replacements and came across reviews for Schwalbe marathon plus. These tyres have a 5mm puncture guard which Schwalbe claims “protects even against thumb tacks”. I can’t attest to that claim but since fitting them, using them on three different bikes and doing a few thousand miles without a single puncture, I think there is something in the manufacturer’s claim.

The tyres come in various sizes and styles. I use the marathon plus tour on my road bike and marathon plus MTB on the mountain bike. The MTB have a knobblier tread and come in a wider size.

I haven’t used my current tyres long enough to get a proper idea of how durable they will be but so far they seem to be holding up well after a couple of hundred miles.
