When I’m touring, I prefer the “old-fashioned” metheod of navigating. Paper maps!
So when I finally decided to replace my handlebar bag with a previously used style in the Ortlieb bag the one I bought didn’t have the clear pocket on the lid. This meant I would need to find some other way to keep my map handy.
Ortlieb’s map case turned out to be the ideal solution and as that’s why they designed it, it does the job just right. The case is well made and sturdy enough to protect paper maps but is still transparent enough to be able to read them on the move. The four fastening clips allow for enough adjustment to suit carrying different sized folded maps and securely fix the cast to the lid of the bag. This metheod of fastening also allows for the lid to be opened without fear of losing the map-case. It also makes it easy to remove if neccessary. The velcro closure on the case itself ensures the map will stay dry when its raining though I’m not sure yet how it will cope with condensation. (I will update when I find out).
I paid just under £30 for this case. There are less expensive map-cases available but I consider it worth the extra expense to get one which is specifically designed to fit the bag I’m using.
