I was looking for a saddle mounted rear light to replace the Lenzyne one I was using attached to my seatpost. I have a dropper post and use a saddlebag. So the light needed to be fitted low down on the seat post to allow for the drop but this meant it was below the level of the mudguard I have fitted. The Knog light bracket fits to the seat rails in front of the fitment for the Ortlieb saddlebag. I have the light bracket adjusted so it sits just above the saddlebag. If it was fitted to the seat rails without a saddlebag it would sit neatly under the saddle.
After using the light attached to the seat rails for a couple of months, I found that it was not ideal to have both it and the saddlebag on the rails. Fitting and removing the bag knocked the light bracket off a few times and no matter what combination of positions I tried I just couldn’t get it to work. Eventually I came up with a workable solution. I drilled a hole in the back of the saddle and mounted the light directly using half of the bracket behind the saddle frame, just where the Brooks logo is. This allowed me to adjust the saddle-bag brackets and raises the light above the bag to allow better adjustment.
The light itself has eight settings. I generally keep it on the eco flash mode which should give me 50+ hours on a full charge. This setting is still fairly bright for use during daytime but I may change to a brighter setting for the winter if I ride after dark or on main roads. The light is sturdy and clips off the bracket for charging with an USB cable (not supplied). The magnetic fastening ensures it sits securely on the bracket. It’s not a cheap light but I believe for the build quality and reliability, it is worth the price.
