I had a dropper seatpost fitted to my mountain bike for about six months and in that time hardly used it. I would drop the seat when I was taking my bike down in the lift but that wasn’t really necessary and I think I probably did it to justify having an expensive piece of kit on the bike. It was also on occasions a bit of a pain if I didn’t get it extended first time when I set off. So, for these reasons I decided to go back to using a rigid post.
I had a look on e-bay and foud a Hope Eternity post for a good bit less than a new one. The post is machined from a strong alloy but the oiutstanding feature for me is the clamp holding the seat rails. It is formed from two concentric ribbed rings whch fit on either side of the post and are adjusted by two allen bolts, one on either side. Once the saddle rails are slotted in place, the saddle is easily tightened. Adjustment can be accurately made by loosening the bolts a couple of turns and tilting the seat. I really like this style of bracket as the bolts are easily accessed, unlike some other posts where the bolts have to be reached from underneath the saddle.
I’ve also found a listing on e-bay for replacement clamps in black and am getting tempted!

My hope eternity seatpost.
