gore-wear C3 helmet cover

I couple of times when I was commuting to work I had no option but to cycle, even when the rain was coming down in sheets. Wearing a waterproof jacket and overtrousers overcame most of this discomfort but one area which still caused me to get annoyed was the trickle of cold water which would seep through the air vents in my helmet and run down my face and even worse down the back of my neck.

A solution to this was a helmet cover. I looked at a couple and settled on the Gore-wear C3, mainly because I had previous experience of their quality. The cover comes in a couple of colour schemes and I decided on the day-glow and black one. I reckoned that if the weather was poor, an increased level of visibility was a good thing.

The helmet cover works well at keeping the rain out but I’m not so sure that the gore-tex fabric is entirely necessary. As the helmet is open, there isn’t the same need for the breathability that gore-tex gives. This element brings with it an increase in cost. The fit is good although I find I need to remove the helmet from my head to ensure proper fitting. I tend not to wear it when the weather is dry so fit and remove it regularly. At price of over £30 I would hate to lose it by not being secured.
