Cateye do a range of AMMP lights which go from 100 up to 1700 lumens, costing from £20 up to around £140 so there is something for every need and pocket. I went for the 800 lumens as it was in the middle of the strengths. They seem to have upgraded their range and the 800 has been replaced by a 900.
When I first used it I had it fitted to my mountain bike and was riding regularly in the dark. I normally ran it on the middle of the three steady settings. This was powerfull enough to light my way most of the time although it was good to know I had extra brightness for unfamiliar routes. There are also a couple of different speed, flashing setting which I personally seldom use but are handy to have.
The light has a battery level indicator on the top. This glows blue when fully charged and changes to orange when the battery needs charging. I have found that on a low seeting the battery will last around an hour once this comes on which is usually enough warning. The battery takes about 3/4 hours to recharge fully though I have found it is more reassuring to leave it on charge overnight.
The light is compact and sturdily made from alloy. It mounts on handle bars with an adjustable ring which tightens with a screw. I have it mounted on my front rack and although it has moved a couple of times when I have knocked it it remains securely fastened.
Cateye sell a range of spares for their lights and it is reassuring to know that things such as mounts can be replaced if needed.
